Where do you go?
Last year was a whirlwind travel season for us. We moved around a lot and spent a lot of money. We had a great time. This season, not wanting to break the bank we decided to slow it down. Stay put for longer and not fight the summer travelers, the heat, high gas prices and limited places to stay.
A few factors were involved in the decision to slow down 1) Campendium. I am so UPSET to say the least. They decided to ditch the mobile app and sell off to Roadtrippers. I do not like this change over app. Why? why? why? The Roadtrippers app is garbage. You have to tick off a lot of “filters” to simply get to the screen of campgrounds in your location. With Campendium I could open the app it could tell me what was in my area. SIMPLE. I don’t even use Roadtrippers at all. 2) Starlink. I love it, but it sucks up a lot of power and we don’t have the fancy smancy battery set up and loads of solar panels on the roof. Modern conveniences are great, and they do make life simpler, but there is always a downside.
BUT, this will not deter me from the travel life. I love it. I love being out on the road living in a different area and feeling blessed beyond to have the option to do so. As I mentioned in a previous blog, we needed to stay close to our home base. I have traveled to Utah so many times over the years but have not traveled the eastern section. The locations of the Mighty 5, (Arches, Canyonlands, Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef).
This month we checked off one. Capitol Reef. It was a day trip about 75 miles from our month-long camping spot. The weather was good, not windy and a calm beautiful drive. The scenery in Utah is stunning. It has color. Beautiful reds, orange, and greens make for a beautiful backdrop. The 19-mile scenic drive unfortunately was closed for construction we were only able to see up to the Gifford House and no we didn’t try the pie. Sorry. Nonetheless, it was a good day and we enjoyed our journey out.

We stopped on our way home at the Pizza Curry shop in Torrey, UT. It has the sign in front as featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Their claim to fame is they were the first to try curry sauce on a pizza. Wolf LOVES Indian food and has had the worst craving for a dish. I personally, cannot have Indian food. I am allergic to almost all of the spices and suffer from massive headaches for days. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappoint for him, he couldn’t eat it and it went to waste. Maybe at the time of their TV appearance it was a good day. But, to each his own it was not for Wolf.
This summer has been a massive heat wave no matter what part of the country you live in. This season hasn’t been quite as exciting as last summer. That is RV life, good times and not so exciting times. A lot of wind and heat.
So, where is a good place to visit in the month of July? The summer travel season is May to September with July being the busiest. The 4th of July is probably the height of July travel. Families get together, make it a long weekend. I know from my past life the convention industry basically shuts down. That week was the only week we could vacation as a family. Back in the day when campsites were plenty and you didn’t have to book months in advance.
I dislike the fourth of July due to the massive fireworks and excitement of others to blow shit up. Our two little dogs are terrified of the loud noises, and it makes for zero sleep. Sasha, barks at fireworks and thunderstorms and July packs a punch on both. We did disappear to the mountains where fireworks are not allowed and had a peaceful night. We thought we were good and came back to our month-long campsite two days later. That was a mistake. Apparently, Utah is not so strict with firework laws. IT WAS EVERYNIGHT FOR THE MONTH. Utah will not be my place to stay in July next year. It has been quite miserable.
I know exactly where I will be next year during the summer travel season. Not to be revealed yet, I have a few things in the works.
To wrap up July we didn’t do much other than our day trip to Capitol Reef. Too hot to travel with our doggies, air conditioning was a must. I don’t handle heat well these days. One reason for my escaping North and out of Las Vegas. So, we lounged, hung out at our camp spot inside our cozy home.
August should be more exciting. I’ll tell you all about it next month.
Take care, Teresa for PetsLifeAdventure.
